On the trail of the veterans
Caen, the prefecture of Calvados and well known for its gastronomy, is voted one of the top ten townsin France, were one can live the good life. Although massively destroyed in the war, there are still beautiful buildings to see. The famous castle from William the Conqueror, its medival little streets and a few romanic and gothic churches. On the outskirts of Caen is the "Memorial" also know as the Peace Museum, which opened 1988 and decribes the history of the twentieth century, which brings the 2nd world war to the fore. North of Caen, many places remind us of the momentous day of the 6 June 1944. The bunkers, the landing beaches and the military cemeteries. These places stay impressively in ones memory.
